More than a year before the midterm elections, at least half of Filipino voters already have their preferred senatorial candidates, according to the Pulse Asia survey result released Friday.

The survey conducted from March 23 to 28 showed 57 percent of the 1,200 adult respondents have chosen their candidates for the May 2019 senatorial elections.

The respondents were asked to choose their 12  candidates from a list of 58 names. Of the number, 15 have statistical chances of winning.

Most of the probable winners are either incumbent or former members of the Senate.

Leading the May 2019 senatorial race with a statistical ranking of solo first place was Senator Grace Poe (70.8 percent).

In second to third places were Senator Cynthia Villar (55.6 percent) and Taguig City Representative Pia Cayetano (53.8 percent).

Senator Nancy Binay was in fourth to sixth places (45.8 percent) while Senator Edgardo Angara, Jr. (44.9 percent) and Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte Carpio (43.8 percent) share fourth to seventh places.

Senate President Aquilino Martin "Koko" Pimentel III was in fifth to ninth places (39.8 percent).

The other probable winners were former Senator Sergio Osmena (38.0 percent, seventh to 12th places); Erwin Tulfo (36.7 percent, seventh to 13th places); former Senator Lito Lapid (33.8 percent, eighth to 15th places); former Philippine National Police chief Ronald "Bato" dela Rosa (33.1 percent, eighth to 15th places); former Senator Jinggoy Estrada (32.8 percent, eighth to 15th places); Ilocos Norte Governor Imee Marcos (32.2 percent, ninth to 15th places); Senator Paolo Benigno "Bam" Aquino (30.5 percent, 10th to 19th places); and Senator Joseph Victor Ejercito (29.0 percent, 10th to 19th places).

The survey showed only 4.5 percent of Filipinos do not express support for any of the 58 personalities whose names are included in the survey’s senatorial electoral probe.

On the other hand, 0.8 percent of Filipinos refuse to identify the senatorial candidates they plan to vote for in May 2019, if any, and 0.5 percent admit not knowing whom to vote for in the coming senatorial race.

The survey was conducted nationwide using face-to-face interviews with 1,200 adults aged 18 years old and above.
