Albayalde: PNP to distribute first batch of body cams for anti-drug ops within second quarter of the year

The Philippine National Police (PNP) will start distributing the first batch of body cameras for use in anti-drug operations within this second quarter of the year, newly-installed PNP chief Director General Oscar Albayalde said Saturday.

"Alam ko po paparating na 'yung first bacth ng supply niyan this quarter...for distribution na," Albayade said in an interview on Super Radyo dzBB.

He said the PNP has already started the bidding process for the body cameras.

"Actually, meron na pong bidding 'yan approved na po kasi ang pondo na P334 million, kung hindi po ako nagkakamali," the new PNP chief said.

"Meron na nga pong dumating na for demonstration niyan e," he added.

Albayalde's predecessor, former PNP chief Ronald dela Rosa, earlier said the PNP will receive the body cameras by June as they move to fast track its purchase.

Dela Rosa said the deaths of Kian delos Santos and Carl Angelo Arnaiz and the clamor of the public prompted them to purchase body cameras. — Ted Cordero/RSJ, GMA News
