Leni insists she has no capacity to cheat in 2016 polls

Vice President Leni Robredo on Saturday insisted she does not have the capacity to commit fraud in the 2016 elections as Presidential Electoral Tribunal's manual recount of vice presidential votes continues.

“Nakakaistorbo lang itong protest. ‘Yung nakakagulat sa protest, ako raw ‘yung mandaraya. Parang, as if I have the capacity to do that,” Robredo said in her speech at the 53rd annual membership meeting of Philippine Bible Society in Manila.

“Kung magdadaya, bakit hindi ‘yung partido ko ‘yung magdadaya for me? Bakit ako ‘yung ipapapanalo?” she continued.

Robredo said she had experienced vilification from the other camp, yet she chose to be silent regarding the matter.

“Alam n'yo naman siguro, those of you who are in social media, lahat ng klase ng kuwento nagawa na sa ‘kin. Pero I have tried to hold my horses. I felt that the best way was to keep quiet, ‘wag patulan,” she said.

Robredo said she viewed the attacks against her reputation as a test of faith.

“You are called names. Pero sa national, people don’t see you up close, kaya marami ang naniniwala,” she said.

“But again, siguro ‘yun din ‘yung faith eh. There are so many things we need to do. Uubusin ko ba ‘yung energies ko sa pagpatol du’n? I only have six years to do my mandate, so ibuhos ko na lang sa pagtulong,” she added.

She said she is leaving up to God whatever will be the outcome of the recount, which is being conducted based on the protest filed by former senator Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr.

The Robredo camp had filed an urgent ex-parte motion to follow the 25 percent threshold set by the Comelec, instead of the 50 percent threshold set by the PET in a 2010 regulation.

A week later, the PET denied Robredo's motion.

On Thursday, Robredo’s camp again tried to convince the PET to apply the 25-percent threshold in considering votes valid.

Robredo said she still hopes that she would win in the recount, but will accept as well if she loses. —ALG, GMA News
