More than 7,000 cops deployed to secure ADB Manila 2018

The Philippine National Police on Friday deployed some 7,700 police personnel to secure the annual meeting of the Asian Development Bank Board of Governors.

The 51st ADB Board of Governors' Annual Meeting 2018 or dubbed as "Manila 2018" will kick-off on May 2 to 6 at the ADP Headquarters in Mandaluyong City. This is the fifth time that the Philippines will be hosting the annual meeting, according to ADB.

The PNP said it will utilize the major event security framework for the security and contingency plans of the annual meeting.

Chief Superintendent Ma. O Aplasca, the acting Director for Operations, said that personnel from other law enforcement agencies, the local government, and medical emergency services will also be fielded which will raise the total personnel deployment to 8,504.

Aplasca also emphasized the commitment of PNP to "deliver airtight security strategy for the successful conduct of the ADB meeting and other collateral meetings, which deems to be the opportune time to provide guidance on ADB administrative, financial, and operational directions."

More or less 3,000 delegates including spouses of Board of Governors, 65 finance and economic planning ministers, international media and other private business visitors are expected to attend the conference. — Marlly Rome Bondoc/RSJ, GMA News
