Over 140,000 jobs up for grabs in Labor Day job fairs

A total of 143,085 jobs locally and abroad are up for grabs in the nationwide job fair on May 1, Labor Day, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) announced Friday.

Of the 143,085 vacant positions courtesy of over 1,000 employers, 58,171 are for local employment and 84,914 are for overseas employment.

"Over and above these numbers, we want to see more job seekers to be hired on the spot once they apply on May 1," Labor Undersecretary Joel Maglungsod said.

"This is why we encourage those seeking employment to take advantage of this on Labor Day," he added.

The top 10 vacancies for local employment are for production machine operators, combat soldiers, construction workers, customer service representatives, masons, call center agents, carpenters, agents or staff of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency, production or factory workers, and service crew.

For overseas employment, the top 10 vacancies are for nurses, production or factory workers, technicians, food and beverage staff, construction workers, cleaners, waiters or waitresses, drivers, laborers, and tire fitters.

President Rodrigo Duterte is expected to make a major announcement on May 1, Maglungsod said without elaborating. —Rie Takumi/KBK, GMA News
