Sotto to replace Koko as Senate president within the year —Lacson

Senate Majority Leader Vicente "Tito" Sotto III is set to succeed Senate President Aquilino "Koko" Pimentel III within the year, Senator Panfilo Lacson said Thursday, citing an "agreement" between the two.

At a press briefing, Lacson said the change in Senate leadership may happen in June or July, or in October at the latest.

"Ngayon, hindi pa napag-usapan pero understand that there is already an agreement or understanding between Senator Sotto and Senator Pimentel," Lacson said when asked about possible change in the Senate leadership.

"Pero kung kailan i-execute or kailan i-implement, we do not know."

Asked if Sotto will assume Pimentel's post as Senate President, Lacson said, "Eventually."

Lacson said the Senate will respect the agreement between the two.

"Kung meron silang agreement or standing agreement then we will respect the agreement and we will vote according to what has been agreed upon," he said. —Margaret Claire Layug/KBK, GMA News
