New DOT Sec. Bernadette Romulo-Puyat has served 3 Presidents

Newly appointed Tourism Secretary Bernadette Romulo-Puyat, who will take over the post of Wanda Tulfo-Teo, has served three administrations, according to a report on News To Go on Wednesday.

Puyat has been in public service since the administration of former President Gloria Arroyo, where she served as a consultant under the Presidential Management Staff.

She then served as Undersecretary for Special Concerns at the Department of Agriculture under the administration of former President Benigno Aquino III.

Prior to her current appointment, Puyat was the Undersecretary for Agribusiness and Marketing, and Regional Engagement, again at the Department of Agriculture under the Duterte administration.

Puyat seems to be following the footsteps of her parents.

Just like her, her father Alberto Romulo also served three presidents. He served as a senator during the administrations of President Corazon Aquino and President Fidel Ramos. He was also appointed as Executive Secretary, and as Secretary of the Department of Finance and the Department of Foreign Affairs.

Puyat's mother, Lovely Romulo, was the former Chairperson of the National Council on Disability Affairs.

Her grandfather is Carlos P. Romulo who became Minister of Foreign Affairs and president of the United Nations General Assembly. Her brother, meanwhile, is former Pasig City Representative Roman Romulo.

Puyat is a widow. Her husband died due to heart attack.

Puyat's appointment was confirmed by Special Assistant to the President Secretary Bong Go on Tuesday night, a day after Teo handed in her resignation.

Teo stepped down from her post amid controversy caused by the placement of tourism campaign advertisements on the television show of her brothers that run as blocktimers in state-run Philippine Television Network Inc. (PTV). —Jessica Bartolome/KG, GMA News
