Gadon will only accept gov’t post that will destroy ‘yellow virus’

Lawyer Larry Gadon on Friday said he would only accept any offer for a government post if it would allow him to bring down what he called the "yellow virus."

He made the statement at a forum after Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno's appointment to the top magistrate position was nullified by a quo warranto petition that her colleagues approved through an 8-6 vote.

When asked if he would accept any offer from President Rodrigo Duterte for a government post after Sereno's ouster, Gadon said: "Interesado lang ako sa isang posisyon, if I will be given a position that will empower me to destroy the yellow virus, then I will accept it."

"If it is not, I am not interested," he added.

In a Pulse Asia survey earlier this year, the lawyer placed ahead of some incumbent officials in the ranking of senatorial bets who are expected to have a shot in the 2019 senatorial elections.

Last year, he lodged an impeachment complaint against Sereno, accusing her of committing culpable violation of the Constitution, corruption, other crimes, and betrayal of public trust.

Like Malacañang and Solicitor General Jose Calida, who filed the now-approved quo warranto petition, Gadon also denied insinuations that Duterte was behind the ouster moves.

In one of his speeches, the President had declared the chief justice as his "enemy" for supposedly hinting at the idea he was behind any oust move, and urged his allies in Congress to expedite the impeachment proceedings against her.
