Why Duterte didn't go through with jetski ride in PHL Rise

It was the sweltering summer heat that prevented President Rodrigo Duterte from pushing through with the plan of riding a jet ski to the Philippine Rise, according to the head of the Presidential Security Group (PSG) on Tuesday.

It was earlier reported that Duterte might ride a jet ski in the waters of the Philippine Rise as part of the commemoration of the first anniversary of the uncontested undersea region's renaming from Benham Rise.

"Pinigilan lang namin at sobra ang init. Not good for his health," said PSG commander Brigadier General Lope Dagoy.

Dagoy dispelled concerns of security threats to the 73-year-old chief executive.

Instead of Duterte, Special Assistant to the President Christopher "Bong" Go, presidential son Sebastian Duterte, National Security Adviser Hermogenes Esperon and PBA party-list Representative Jericho Nograles did the jet-skiing. —JST, GMA News
