Bato reiterates openness to run for Senate, says he wants death penalty for drug convicts

Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) chief Ronald "Bato" Dela Rosa on Tuesday reiterated his openness to run as senator, adding he is just awaiting instructions from President Rodrigo Duterte.

"Magde-decide ako pag sinabihan ako ni Presidente, 'yun lang ang hinihintay ko," Dela Rosa told reporters in the Senate.

A former Philippine National Police chief, Dela Rosa said if ever he becomes a senator, he would work for the reinstatement of the death penalty for drug convicts.

"Kung sakaling mangyaring ganon, more on safety and security ang ating pag-uusapan. Gusto ko magkaroon ng death penalty 'yung mga drug offenders," he said.

He added that he also wants to have a national ID system and postpaid services for cellphones instead of prepaid.

Dela Rosa, whose stint as Philippine National Police chief was marred with accusations of human rights violations and extrajudicial killings, admitted that he was amused with the people who are convincing and supporting him to run for public office.

He, however, stressed that he would only follow what Duterte will tell him to do.

"As I have said again and again, depende na 'yan kay Presidente. —Anna Felicia Bajo/KBK, GMA News
