462,000 sets of computers to be distributed by DepEd to schools this year

Good news for elementary, junior high and senior high school students: The Department of Education will be distributing 462,000 sets of computers this year to public schools.

The DepEd said on Monday it spent P10 billion to procure the computers.

For this year, the DepEd will spend another P8 billion for its computerization program, including the purchase of 200,000 tablets for senior high school students.

DepEd Undersecretary Annalyn Sevilla said students no longer need to bring heavy books to class because these will be uploaded to the tablets.

It was in April when the DepEd first announced its computerization program. DepEd Undersecretary Alain del Pascua said the aim is to "deliver computer units in every school" and "establish computer laboratories, one in every school." —KG, GMA News
