Customs intercepts P250M worth of smuggled Thai rice

The Bureau of Customs (BOC) on Thursday presented to the public over P250 million worth of Thai rice smuggled into the country.

According to a report by GMA News' Jun Veneracion on News to Go, the BOC confiscated some 200 containers which contained 100,000 sacks of Thai rice.

The report said the shipments which were consigned to a certain Sta. Rosa Farm Products Corp. did not have the necessary permits from the National Food Authority (NFA).

The report said the necessary taxes and duties to import the shipments were also unpaid.

The shipment may be auctioned out within five to 10 days, with the assistance of the NFA. — Jon Viktor D. Cabuenas/RSJ, GMA News
