CHED: 234 private universities ask for tuition hike

A total of 234 private universities and colleges have asked that they be allowed to increase tuition by 12 percent for school year 2018-2019, the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) said on Thursday.

"As I was saying the effects of TRAIN law... also because the cost of education has really gone higher... to keep their salaries more competitive with those in the public sector," said CHED Commissioner Prospero De Vera in a 24 Oras report by Marisol Abdurahman.

The report also said 221 universities and colleges have also sought additional payments for other school expenses.  —NB, GMA News
