Policemen have confiscated a mobile phone during an inspection at the detention cell of former Senator Ramon "Bong" Revilla Jr. at the Philippine National Police Custodial Center in Camp Crame.

PNP spokesperson Senior Superintendent Benigno Durana Jr. said the cellphone was confiscated on Thursday night after a "swift inspection" made by the Headquarters Support Service.

Police inspected Revilla's detention cell after the former senator recently posted a Facebook entry to mark his fourth anniversary in detention. The Facebook post has since been made unavailable.

Durana said that an investigation is underway to determine how the cellphone passed through the security. Cell phones are among the items that detainees are prohibited from bring in.

"An investigation is being conducted by HSS to determine the circumstances surrounding that apparent breach of regulations despite at least twice a week unannounced inspections of all the cell blocks," Durana said.

"The ax will fall where it should the moment an investigation clearly established culpability of any personnel," he added.

He was earlier granted furlough to undergo a dental check-up, oral oral prophylaxis, and implant cleaning on June 19 for two hours from 2 p.m. at the Gan Advanced Osseointegration Center.

Revilla during the check-up was prohibited from using any means of communication and electronic gadgets.

Revilla is facing a plunder charge at the Sandiganbayan over his alleged misappropriation of P224.5 million worth of pork barrel funds by channeling them to the fake foundations of scheme mastermind Janet Lim Napoles. —NB, GMA News
