SHERWIN OR WINSTON?

Gatchalian scores PCOO for getting his name wrong

The Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO) on Saturday was called out on yet another online booboo, this time by Senator Sherwin Gatchalian who was mistakenly identified as "Winston" in one of the executive office's news releases.

The PCOO reported that the senator attended the ceremonial signing of the Memorandum of Agreement between the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) and several schools for the implementation of the Universal Access to Quality Tertiary Education Act, of which Gatchalian was one of the authors.

On Saturday, Gatchalian took to social media to point out the gaffe, tweeting a screen grab of the release with a bright red circle around his non-first name: "Winston."

The senator then captioned the screenshot: "May pagasa pa ba ang PCOO???" [Is there still hope for PCOO?]

The error appears to have been corrected as of Saturday.

This month, the PCOO also caught the attention of netizens for using "Norwegia" to refer to Norway in a post about the outgoing Norwegian ambassador's visit to Malacañang.

The "Winston" and "Norwegia" are now part of a growing list of online blunders suffered by the PCOO under the leadership of Secretary Martin Andanar.

The Philippine News Agency, an agency of the PCOO, drew both criticism and laughter last year after it posted a story online about the Department of Labor and Employment but used as thumbnail the logo of fruit company Dole, Philippines.

The PCOO was also hit in March when it released media identification cards with grammatical errors. In September last year, the PCOO also became the subject of ridicule after netizens posted apparent headlining mistakes on its website, making "Lei, reangle this" (one of the editor's notes) a viral catchphrase on social media. — MDM, GMA News
