Joyce Bernal tapped to direct Duterte's third SONA

Malacañang has tapped Joyce Bernal to direct the third State of the Nation Address of President Rodrigo Duterte, Presidential Communications Secretary Martin Andanar said Thursday.

Bernal would be the second director to handle such event under the Duterte administration after award-winning Brillante Mendoza, who directed the previous two SONAs.

Andanar said it was actor Robin Padilla, a staunch Duterte supporter, who requested if Bernal could direct this year's edition.

"And the President approved it," the Palace official said.

Bernal's portfolio includes hit comedy-drama films such as the Kimmy Dora series, “The Super Parental Guardians,” ‘Bakit Hindi Ka Crush Ng Crush Mo,” and “Don’t Give Up On Us."

She had also directed some dramas on the Kapuso network including the remake of South Korean series "My Love From the Star," "That's My Amboy," "Marimar" and "Dyesebel."

Duterte will deliver his third SONA at the Batasang Pambansa in Quezon City on July 23, the opening of the third and last regular session of the 17th Congress. — LA, GMA News
