Pangilinan: VP Leni is the voice of reason, calm, sobriety

Vice President Leni Robredo is the voice of reason, calm, and sobriety amid what is currently happening in the Philippines, Senator Francis Pangilinan said Tuesday.

"Now, amid the naked rule of force, utter disrespect for life, and abandonment of the people, especially the poor, Vice President Leni is the voice of reason, calm, and sobriety," the senator said in a text message to GMA News Online.

Pangilinan, Liberal Party president, said Robredo, with her statement that she has agreed to lead the opposition, has only formalized what she has been doing in the last two years.

"Vice President Leni Robredo is Partido Liberal's chairperson. She is our leader in the party. She is our leader in the country," he said in a press statement.

He said the opposition coalition that is being formed revolves around Robredo's compassionate, empowering, and responsible leadership.

The opposition is set to field senatorial candidates in the 2019 midterm elections.

"Her declaration to lead this coalition only formalizes what has been her role since her election into office two years ago: a stabilizing balance to those in power and their mistaken policies and their abuse of the people's trust that put them in power," Pangilinan said.

"And we at Partido Liberal continue to follow Vice President Leni's lead," he added.

Robredo said a united opposition poses a better chance of having their voices heard on common issues.

"Yung purpose lang naman ng pag-unite is to have one voice. Mahirap kasi kung lahat-lahat maingay, mahirap kung andaming nagsasalita ng sabay-sabay, lalong hindi naririnig," she said. — BM, GMA News
