Duterte names ex-Lanao Sur gov Pangarungan as NCMF chief

President Rodrigo Duterte has appointed former Lanao del Sur governor Saidamen Pangarungan as secretary of the National Commission on Muslim Filipinos (NCMF), documents released by Malacañang showed.

Apart from being the new agency chief, Pangarungan would also serve as one of the commissioners in the nine-member body.

Under the NCMF charter (Republic Act 9997), the President must choose the secretary from among the commissioners and shall serve for two years without prejudice to reappointment.

A commissioner has a term of four years.

Duterte signed the appointment papers of Pangarungan, who was Lanao del Sur governor from 1988 to 1992, on Monday.

Pangarungan is replacing former NCMF chief Yasmin Busran-Lao in the agency mandated to preserve and develop the culture, tradition, institutions, and well-being of Muslim Filipinos.

The other new appointees include Abdulgani Macatoman (Trade and Industry undersecretary), Roberto Alabado III (Tourism assistant secretary), and Charlo Collado (Bureau of Corrections deputy director).  — Virgil Lopez/RSJ, GMA News
