Majority found Duterte's behavior to be vulgar in 3 incidents – SWS


A second quarter 2018 poll taken by the Social Weather Stations concluded that 64 percent of Filipinos found President Rodrigo Duterte's foul-mouthed criticisms and threats against the United Nations Human Rights Council "vulgar."

Among those who did not believe Duterte had been vulgar with the UN Council, 31 percent said the President had not been vulgar, while the remaining 5 percent did not know.

As to Duterte's claim that priests were no better than him, and that some priests had two wives, 55 percent found this to be vulgar, 39 percent did not find it vulgar, and 6 percent did not know.

On the President kissing a woman on the lips during his trip to South Korea, 52 percent said it was vulgar, 40 percent said it was not vulgar, and 7 percent did not know.

Satisfaction

Duterte had a moderate +28  net satisfaction rating (55 percent satisfied, 27 percent dissatisfied) among those who thought the President had been vulgar with the UN Rights Council, three rating levels lower than the excellent +76 (84 percent satisfied, eight percent dissatisfied) among those who did not find it vulgar.

The President was rated a moderate +27 (54 percent satisfied, 28 percent dissatisfied) among those who found his claims against priests was vulgar, three levels lower than the excellent +70 (80 percent satisfied, 10 percent dissatisfied) among those who did not find it vulgar.

Duterte was similarly rated a moderate +23 (52 percent satisfied, 30 percent dissatisfied) among those who said his South Korea kiss was vulgar, and a similar excellent +73 (82 percent satisfied, nine percent dissatisfied) among those who said it was not vulgar.

The SWS calls net ratings of +70 and above as “excellent”, +50 to +69 as “very good”, +30 to +49 was “good”, +10 to +29 was “moderate”, +9 to –9 was "neutral”, –10 to –29 was “poor”, –30 to –49 was “bad”, –50 to –69 was “very bad”, and –70 and below was “execrable.”

Areas

In all areas except Mindanao, half to majority found Duterte's specific acts to be vulgar.

The proportion of those who said the President's swearing against the UN Human Rights Council was vulgar was highest in Metro Manila and Balance Luzon, both at 71 percent, followed by the Visayas at 62 percent, and Mindanao at 47 percent.

Those who found his claims against priests were vulgar was highest in the Visayas at 62 percent, followed by Metro Manila and Balance Luzon at 57 percent and Mindanao at 44 percent.

The proportion of those who said his South Korea kiss was vulgar was also highest in the Visayas at 64 percent, followed by Balance Luzon at 55 percent, Metro Manila at 51 percent, and Mindanao at 37 percent.

The Social Weather Stations second quarter "vulgarity" poll was taken from June 27 to June 30, 2018 using face-to-face interviews of 1,200 adults nationwide. The poll had sampling error margins of ±3 percent for national percentages, and ±6 percent each for Metro Manila, Balance Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao. — DVM/KG, GMA News
