PTV apologizes for use of Chinese-ship photo in PHL Navy story

The government television network People's Television Network, Inc. (PTV/PTNI) on Tuesday apologized for its "inadvertent" use of a Chinese vessel photo in its August 5 "Ulat Bayan" story on the government's plan to send a Philippine Navy ship to Libya to help kidnapped Filipinos.

"Please be advised that the video editor responsible for downloading and using the said photos without proper verification has already been sanctioned," PTV News said in a statement. "Consequently, other PTV News producers and editors have likewise been warned against making similar mistakes in the future."

The PTV report had used a picture of a Chinese Type 054A frigate with a Philippine flag doctored on to the ship.

While the original report was removed from YouTube, a PTV Newsbreak video with the picture of the Philippine-flagged Chinese ship was still available for viewing (starting 0:44) early Wednesday morning. — DVM, GMA News
