Leni 'incompetent'? What about Duterte officials, Robredo lawyer asks

The legal adviser of Vice President Leni Robredo on Wednesday hit back at President Rodrigo Duterte after the chief executive questioned anew her leadership ability.

In a Facebook post, Robredo's legal adviser Barry Gutierrez hit out at Duterte appointees he deemed were "competent." mentioning officials who head or used to head the Department of Tourism (DOT), National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC), and the National Food Authority (NFA).

"Mga 'competent' ayon sa Pangulo: Tourism Secretary na walang ginawa kundi mangurakot, NDRRMC head na nawawala kapag baha, NFA chief na naubusan ng bigas. Kanya na 'yung endorsement niya, sumunod na lang tayo sa Konstitusyon," Gutierrez said.

Speaking before business leaders on Tuesday, Duterte brought up Robredo's competence while he was discussing the scenario of the military taking over if they deem that he could no longer run the nation.

"I have nothing against Robredo. She's a lawyer. You have heard her talk. But I do not think she can improve on anything here. Of course she will deny it. You can ask the hotbed of shabu in the past years. I will not mention the name. It was Naga City," Duterte said.

“I would suggest to the military... if you want yourselves to be the junta, I said line up here, I'll put you in your proper place,” he added.

The Chief Executive previously deemed Robredo as "incompetent" to replace him as the country's leader. This came after Robredo mentioned that she was willing to take the role of leading the opposition.

In response, Robredo encouraged Duterte to address the Philippine economy's problems instead of insulting her.

"Ayoko na sana i-dignify pero siguro sabihin ko na lang na imbes na insultuhin ako o ang Diyos, asikasuhin na lang muna ang mga problema ng ating ekonomiya," Robredo said. —Anna Felicia Bajo/JST, GMA News
