Wala akong balak tumakbo — Arroyo

Former President and incumbent Speaker Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo is in favor of a federal form of government but she has no intention of running for the position of Prime Minister.

In an interview with GMA News, Macapagal-Arroyo said, "Ako, personally, ang kagustuhan ko sa federalism ay 'yung kapangyarihan tinatanggal sa sentro, pumupunta sa rehiyon."

She was also asked about her plans after her election as House Speaker as speculations are rife that she is aiming for the position of Prime Minister once the shift to a federal form of government pushes through.

"Eh 'yung mga nagsasabi nu'n, 'yun ang gusto talagang magkaroon ng kontrobersiya," she said.

"Tingnan naman 'yung draft ng Con-Com (Constitutional Commission). Hindi naman parliamentary (form of government). Presidential. So ako, wala akong balak tumakbo," she added.

Macapagal-Arroyo also pointed out that elections will push through in May 2019.

"Dapat tuloy ang eleksyon. Walang term extension," she said. — BAP/KG, GMA News
