Sereno visits Trillanes at Senate

Ousted Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno on Wednesday visited Senator Antonio Trillanes in his Senate office, where the latter has been holed up since last week after his amnesty was nullified by President Rodrigo Duterte.

Based on pictures provided by the office of Trillanes, the senator and Sereno had lunch.

Sereno's visit to Trillanes came two days after the Liberal Party bared its list of possible candidates for the 2019 Senate elections, which included the two, as well as former Presidential candidate Manuel "Mar" Roxas, former Chief Justice Ma. Lourdes Sereno, actor Jose Sixto "Dingdong" Dantes, among others.

The two share a common adversary in Solicitor General Jose Calida.

It was Calida who filed a petition for quo warranto to question the appointment if Sereno as chief justice. The Supreme Court  sided with Calida which resulted in Sereno's ouster.

Calida also initiated a review on Trillanes' amnesty by asking the Armed Forced of the Philippines for a copy of records related to the latter's application.

Trillanes' supposedly "missing" application form lead the administration to believe that he did not comply with the requirements prompting President Rodrigo Duterte to issue Proclamation 572 revoking the amnesty.

Trillanes, however, has repeatedly shown footage and photos of him applying for amnesty before the Department of National Defense. His camp also showed a copy of his amnesty certification from the same agency.

The proclamation was published on the day Trillanes was set to preside over a Senate hearing probing the alleged conflict of interest of Calida in connections with government contracts bagged by his family's  security agency. — MDM, GMA News
