Duterte offers NFA chief post to Army commander Bautista

President Rodrigo Duterte on Sunday offered Army chief Lieutenant General Rolando Bautista the post of National Food Authority (NFA) administrator.

Duterte made the offer during his command conference with Cabinet officials in Tuguegarao City, Cagayan, regarding updates in government actions following Typhoon Ompong.

"In the meantime na 'di kita malagay sa Central Bank... doon ka muna sa NFA siguro, to rationalize the idiotic ano itong... para maplano, make it structural," Duterte told Bautista during the command conference that was aired on state-run RTVM.

Duterte described Bautista as "mabait."

It was not clear what was Bautista's response to Duterte's offer.

Bautista is set to retire on October 15.

Duterte earlier announced that he was looking to replace NFA administrator Jason Aquino who has asked to be relieved from his post because he can no longer cope with the workload amid the shortage of cheap state-subsidized rice in the country.

Following Duterte's announcement, Aquino went on leave.  —KBK, GMA News
