Duterte vows full gov't care for wounded soldiers, civilians in CDO

President Rodrigo Duterte has assured wounded soldiers and civilians who are currently confined at the Camp Evangelista Station Hospital in Cagayan de Oro City of full recovery under the government’s care.

In a statement issued on Saturday, the Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO) said Duterte visited the wounded soldiers and civilians on Friday, September 21 "to check on their condition and boost their morale personally."

"The President also assured them of full recovery under the government’s care," the PCOO said.

The 10 Wounded-In-Action (WIA) soldiers and two civilians were injured during various military offense operations in the area of responsibility of the 4th Infantry Division.

The soldiers visited by the President were Private Jerome Radoc, CAA Raymond Quillano, Corporal Gabie Jun Cabajes III, Private First Class Aldrie Calayca, Private Joeberto Laguna, Private First Class Junling Espinosa, Private First Class Renie Gerzon, Private John Paul Tapayan, Private Vic Berlon, and Staff Sergeant Manny Valdez.

The injured civilians, on the other hand, were Lito Tayco and Jimmy Unabia.

"During his visit, President Duterte had a friendly chat with the wounded troops and civilians. He then honored them by awarding the Order of Lapu-Lapu with the rank of Kampilan," the PCOO said.

"The Commander-in-Chief confers the prominent award on the officials, government personnel, and private individuals who are severely wounded or suffered a significant loss of property as a direct result of their participation in an action supporting a campaign or advocacy of the President," it said.

Duterte also provided the awardees with a mobile phone, financial assistance, caliber .45 firearm, and a watch.
