'Once a year dapuan ng monthly period,' Bertiz says in apologizing for behavior

ACTS OFW party-list Representative John Bertiz III on Monday said he is a mere human being who has his own weaknesses and sometimes loses his temper, as he apologized anew for the incident at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA), whose video has since gone viral.

"For the past three years that I've been a member of Congress, once a year na dapuan tayo ng monthly period," Bertiz told reporters in a press conference.

"Hindi ko na rin maiaalis na tao lang po na marupok, umiinit ang ulo, na-s-stress din sa trabaho," he added.

Bertiz earned the ire of many netizens after a CCTV security video taken at NAIA went viral showing that he supposedly refused to remove his shoes as part of security protocol at the airport.

The lawmaker has apologized for the said incident and expresses regret for his actions.

"I just would like to express my sincerest and deepest apology to the public, doon sa nakapanood ng video," he said.

"I'm sorry, I should not have acted that way, it's very uncalled for for a public official to act that way," he added.

But members of the House minority bloc, to which Bertiz belong, may initiate a complaint before the Committee on Ethics and Privileges against the lawmaker if no outside party would do so, said its leader Representative Danilo Suarez.

Bertiz said he is ready to undergo any investigation into the incident.

"I'm very much willing to submit myself to any investigation just to be fair to the public," he said.

Manila International Airport Authority General Manager Ed Monreal also said on Sunday that they are already looking into the incident. —JST, GMA News
