Customs at NAIA seize P14.6M worth of cocaine, other illegal drugs


The Bureau of Customs (BOC) at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport has seized a total P14.629 million worth of illegal drugs which it turned over to the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency on Thursday.

One parcel from Sao Paolo, Brazil contained 2,329 grams of cocaine with an estimated street value of P12.345 million concealed in a supplementary sheet.

It was consigned to a certain Johnmel Natividad with an address in Sta. Isabel, Caloocan City.

Another parcel from the United Kingdom was found to contain more or less 204.9 grams of shabu with an estimated street value of P1.43 million.

The consignee for the shipment declared as dressed baby suits and birthday cards was identified as Joy Bido Marieo with address at Bautista, Sampaloc 4, Dasmariñas, Cavite.

Customs also seized 500.42 grams of marijuana estimated to be worth P850,000 concealed in a portable heater addressed to a certain Raven Delosa of Quezon City from California.

In addition, a snake concealed inside a black sock and was declared as power supply intended for export to Taipei City, Taiwan was subsequently turned over to the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR).

At a ceremony headed by Customs Commissioner Isidro Lapeña, representatives of the DENR thanked Customs agents as the importation of wildlife animals is a violation of Republic Act 9147 or the Wildlife Resources Conservation and Protection Act.

The BOC also reported the turnover of assorted clothes, beddings, pillows and blankets to the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) as aid to the victims of typhoon Ompong in Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR). —Margaret Claire Layug/NB, GMA News
