Immigration official to run for Muntinlupa mayor

Bureau of Immigration (BI) OIC Deputy Commissioner Marc Red Mariñas is resigning from his post to run as Muntinlupa mayor in the 2019 midterm elections.

Mariñas, a career bureau officer for 18 years, will file his certificate of candidacy on Monday, the BI announced in a statement on Friday.

The 43-year-old official concurrently heads the bureau's Port Operations Division (POD). Prior to this, he was an Alien Control Officer at San Fernando, La Union, and was earlier a front line Immigration Officer at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport for 14 years.

“Since my teenage days it has always been my dream and passion to someday serve the people of Muntinlupa as their mayor and bequeath to them a lasting legacy of genuine public service,” the BI quoted him as saying.

Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra has appointed Jose Mari Ronaldo Ledesma as OIC-associate commissioner and Grifton Medina as acting POD chief to replace Mariñas. — MDM, GMA News
