Joblessness rises in Q3 2018 as 9.8 million without work –SWS
The number of Filipinos without a job in the third quarter of the year has gone up compared to the second quarter, according to a survey conducted by the Social Weather Stations (SWS).
In its survey done from September 15 to 23, 2018, the SWS found adult joblessness at 22 percent or equivalent to around 9.8 million jobless adults.
This is a 2.3-point increase from the second quarter's 19.7 percent or around 8.6 million adults, found in SWS's June 2018 survey.

Still, the second quarter joblessness was 1.8 points lower that 23.9 percent or 10.9 million adults in March 2018.
Of the 22 percent jobless people in September 2018, 9.2 percent or around 4.1 million adults were retrenched (up by 2 points from 6.8 percent in June 2018).
Meanwhile, 8.4 percent or some 3.7 million adults voluntarily left their old jobs (down by 1.1 points from 9.5% in June).
Lastly, 4.4 percent or some 2 million jobless adults are first-time job seekers who have yet to find a job (up by 1 point from 3.4%% in June).

Of those 9.2 percent retrenched, 6.6 percent did not get their previous contracts renewed, while 1.6 percent were laid off, and 1 percent were employed in companies that closed operations.
Optimism that there will be more jobs fell by 8 points from 47% in June 2018 to 39% in September 2018, while pessimism that there will be fewer jobs rose by 1 point from 15% to 16%. — MDM, GMA News
