PHL Navy hosts Vietnamese counterparts in visit to Parola Island

The Philippine Navy warmly welcomed the Vietnam People's Navy to Parola Island (Northeast Cay) in the Spratlys over the weekend.

In a statement, the Philippine Navy said the event was a return visit after the Vietman People's Navy welcomed them last year for an undertaking.

The Vietnamese contingent was headed by Senior Captain Nhuyen Viet Thuan, the Deputy Commander of Naval Region No. 4, while the Philippine delegation was headed by Deputy Commander for Fleet Operations Captain Carlos Sabarre.

The two delegations spent the one-day event playing goodwill games and sports, and the visit was capped by cultural performances.

The Philippine Navy said the personnel interaction provides an avenue for enlarging and sustaining the good relationship between the two navies.

Furthermore, it is meant to further enhance understanding in the areas of maritime security, socio-cultural, economic, and regional and international cooperation in the West Philippine Sea. — Jessica Bartolome/BM, GMA News
