Autopsy reveals Mariannet raped - report

Mariannet Amper, the 12-year-old girl who hanged herself out of poverty in her house in Davao City last November 2, may have also suffered from the trauma of being raped. Radio dzBB reported Thursday evening that the autopsy ordered by Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte showed Mariannet’s genitals had wounds indicating she was raped. It said the mayor, upon learning of the results, ordered an investigation into the supposed rape. Duterte, who called a press conference at a hotel in the city, ordered Mariannet’s body exhumed and autopsied. The autopsy found wounds indicating she may have been sexually abused. Although the autopsy showed the wound had been inflicted “long ago," the wound may have been connected with a page Mariannet supposedly ripped out of her diary and destroyed. The dzBB report said the supposed missing page indicated that if anyone were to read its contents, it would mean her parents had already separated. Duterte said he has ordered the local police to get testimonies from witnesses and Mariannet’s classmates. He would not comment on the possibility that Mariannet’s father molested her. The dzBB report said its correspondent tried to get the side of Mariannet’s family but had not been able to contact them. Mariannet’s suicide, including her letter to television reality show “Wish Ko Lang" asking for school supplies and a bicycle so she could go to school, attracted national attention to the problem of poverty. - GMANews.TV
