VP Leni visits CamNorte, shares news on PET partial poll recount

"Cheerful" Vice President Leni Robredo on Saturday visited Camarines Norte province, a day after the Presidential Electoral Tribunal made public its resolution indicating that her lead against rival Bongbong Marcos even widened after the partial poll recount of the contested 2016 election results for the VP race.

Robredo visited Camarines Norte to meet with different sectoral groups in her home region. She hails from Naga, a component city of the Bicol region located in Camarines Sur.

She first visited a fisherfolk group in Mercedes, Camarines Norte, and handed out financial assistance from the Office of the Vice President.

Robredo told GMA News in an interview that she is happy with the result of the partial recount of the contested votes, whose results even pushed her farther ahead of her rival Marcos by 15,000 votes.

“Kami po natutuwa na inilabas na yung resulta ng recount kasi ito naman yung pinagtatalunan, di ba? Yung pinagtatalunan na pinapalabas na talo kami sa recount, pinapalabas na kung anu-anong kasinungalingan. The fact na nilabas na ito ng PET ng Supreme Court, masaya kami na napakita ano ba talaga yung nangyari,” she said.

Robredo's lead over former Senator Marcos grew by as much as 15,000 votes after the initial recount in the election protest the latter filed, the Supreme Court sitting as the Presidential Electoral Tribunal (PET) said in a resolution made known on Friday.

Robredo's lead over Marcos increased from 263,473 to 278,566 after the initial recount.

After the visit to Mercedes town, she was to proceed to Jose Panganiban town and in the afternoon she is expected to proceed to the town of Labo. —LBG/KG, GMA News
