Susan Roces leads FPJ death anniversary rites

A Mass and a visit to the cemetery on Friday highlighted simple rites that marked the third death anniversary of Philippine movie idol and former presidential bet Fernando Poe Jr. Radio dzBB reported that Poe's widow, actress Susan Roces, and young relatives visited Poe's tomb at the North Cemetery in Manila early Friday morning. "Dear uncle Ronnie, I love you, I miss you," read small Christmas cards placed near flowers on Poe's tomb. Roces offered flowers while representatives from the Muslim community offered prayers. Former President Joseph Estrada, who visited Poe's tomb last November 1, did not say if he would visit the tomb Friday, but sponsored a mass for his bosom buddy in San Juan City. The early-morning mass was held at the Santuario de San Jose in San Juan City, where Poe and Roces were wed. Roces attended the mass before going to the North Cemetery. Poe died on Dec. 14, 2004, after suffering a stroke. He had placed his electoral defeat under protest at the time, claiming President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo robbed him of his electoral victory. - GMANews.TV
