Task force to release National Food Policy in October –Nograles

Cabinet Secretary Karlo Nograles on Saturday announced that the Inter-Agency Task Force on Zero Hunger will release the National Food Policy (NFP), which seeks to address the country’s hunger problems, on October 16.

“Sinasabi po ng lahat ng eksperto ng mundo… kasunod ng COVID-19, ang sunod po nating problema ang problema ng kagutom at problema ng poverty and hunger,” Nograles, the IATF co-chair, said in a live briefing on Facebook.

In January, President Rodrigo Duterte formed the task force to craft the NFP, which will outline national priorities based on a comprehensive understanding of the problems of hunger and related issues, and shall provide a roadmap for achieving zero hunger by 2030.

“Yung National Food Policy dapat naka-map out po diyan sa National Food Policy natin lahat ng mga strategies, programs, activities, projects, and policies natin, lahat ng polisiya natin na may kinalaman sa pag-tugon sa problema ng kagutuman,” explained Nograles.

He added that the plan to achieve zero hunger will still continue despite the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic.

“Ako, ang tingin ko diyan is all the more kailangan natin ituloy. Syempre ang tanong ng iba, kaya pa ba ang zero hunger by 2030… but, again, ano gawin natin? Alangan naman tumigil tayo. Kailangan subukan pa rin natin,” the Cabinet Secretary emphasized.

“Kahit na may kinakaharap tayo na ganitong challenge ay dapat pa rin nating isulong ‘yung assignment natin na ganito ang committment natin.”

The NFP will tackle food production, food availability, food accessibility, nutritional aspect, food resiliency, people’s participation, as well as policy, according to Nograles. — DVM, GMA News
