Jalosjos to face group probing issuance of ‘erroneous’ release order

Convicted rapist Romeo Jalosjos will be the next to be grilled in an ongoing investigation into how the former congressman got his "release order" last December – more than a year earlier than his completion of his jail sentence. Radio dzBB reported Monday that state prosecutor Philip Quimpo said Jalosjos will face a fact-finding committee when it conducts a hearing on the matter on Tuesday afternoon at the New Bilibid Prisons (NBP). The report added that Jalosjos is scheduled to take the "witness stand" at 2 p.m. Grilled earlier were officials of the Bureau of Corrections and New Bilibid Prison. Justice Sec. Raul Gonzalez earlier created a fact-finding body to investigate how Jalosjos managed to walk out of the national penitentiary last December 22. At the time, Jalosjos claimed he had a valid release order dated December 16. Gonzalez, however, insisted he had already nullified that order. Less than 24 hours after Jalosjos left the penitentiary and planed to Mindanao, the convicted rapist was re-arrested and detained in a Zamboanga penitentiary, then later transferred back to NBP. Jalosjos' walkout cost then-Bureau of Corrections director Ricardo Dapat his job. He was replaced by retired National Police chief Oscar Calderon weeks after news of the controversial release broke. - GMANews.TV
