14 of 85 impounded taxis have spurious engine number - LTO

Fourteen of the 85 taxis impounded by the Land Transportation Office for various violations have tampered engine and chassis number, raising suspicions these were stolen vehicles. “There is a strong indication that these units were stolen and we are currently conducting an investigation," LTO executive assistant Fernando Quiambao said Friday. Quiambao said he believes that the vehicles could have been stolen by car thieves, converted these to taxis and sold to individuals. The LTO, he said, has already coordinated with the Philippine National Police-Traffic Management Group in the investigation. Following are the license plates of the taxi units with “tampered" engine and chassis number: PXN-435, chassis No. EE100-9511940, engine No. 00291-2E; TWR-769, chassis No. EE110-8005546, engine No. 3195779-2E; TYB-503, chassis No. EE-110-5504730 engine No. 501856-2E; TWT-209, chassis No. EE110-8002295, engine No. 520757-2E;TYB-569, chassis No. LF82-6006048, engine No. 2L545575;TXA-468, chassis No. EE-1009538249, engine No. 288846-2E;TWT-405, chassis No. EE11088008346 engine No. 3178853-2E; PVC-904, chassis no.
