UNO builds up case vs Abalos

The United Opposition (UNO) has decided to look into the documents on the P1.3- billion poll modernization program, reportedly overpriced by P500 million. The group considers the investigation a major step towards building a strong impeachment case against Commission on Elections (Comelec) chairman Benjamin Abalos Sr, and two commissioners. Earlier, House Secretary-General Roberto Nazareno rejected an impeachment complaint Atty. Oliver Lozano filed against Abalos, based on the alleged overpricing of some 2,000 automated counting machines. In an interview, House minority floor leader Rep. Francis Escudero, secretary-general of UNO, said the House minority has designated San Juan Rep. Ronaldo Zamora to lead the team to study the documents on alleged irregularities of the failed modernization plan. Aside from Abalos, Escudero named Comelec commissioners Florentino Tuason and Resureccion Borra respondents to a possible impeachment complaint. It will be recalled that the Comelec and the MegaPacific had been named responsible for the alleged overpricing of the counting machines. GMANEWS.TV
