Toll at SLEX's Alabang to Calamba segment lowered by 10%

MANILA, Philippines - The Philippine National Construction Corporation has lowered the toll fee rates in a South Luzon Expressway (SLEX) segment by 10 percent - from P0.84/km to P0.756/km. The reduced toll rates in SLEX - which covers the segment from Alabang, Muntinlupa to Calamba, Laguna - took effect on Monday. Over 200,000 vehicles pass through the SLEX daily. It is an important roadway leading to the fast-growing suburbs south of Metro Manila. It is also the key transport route from some export zones and industrial estates in the area, including agricultural produce from the Southern Tagalog Region. Effectively, the new rates for Alabang to Calamba now reflect a reduction from P24 to P22 for Class 1 vehicles or small vehicles while toll of Class 2 vehicles will be lowered from P48 to P43. Class 3 vehicles - container vans and 10-wheeler trucks - will enjoy lowered rates from P72 to P65. The announcement came amid major rehabilitation projects at SLEX. Among those under rehabilitation are the Alabang Viaduct, which is being upgraded to meet international safety standards, and the Alabang to Sta. Rosa, Laguna segment which is being expanded from four to eight lanes. A third segment, from Sta. Rosa to Calamba, Laguna, is being expanded from four to six lanes. There are also plans to interconnect SLEX with the STAR Tollway for a seamless motorist travel up to Batangas. In a statement, Transportation and Communications Secretary Leandro R. Mendoza said that the reduction of toll rates at the SLEX was due to the strengthening of the peso against the dollar.- GMANews.TV
