Pinoys hold Marian pilgrimage in Poland

Several Filipino devotees participated in an outreach program of the Philippine Embassy in Poland during their Marian pilgrimage there on July 30 and 31. The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said on Tuesday the outreach was the first outside Warsaw by embassy staff led by Philippine Ambassador to Poland Edgardo Manuel. In a news release, the DFA said Manuel led embassy officers and staff in paying tribute to the Matki Bożej Królowej Świata (Madonna, Queen of Nations/Our Lady Mediatrix of All Nations, Domacyno). Nearly 100 Filipinos and Polish nationals from across Poland convened for the Filipino Summer Gathering 2011, the DFA said. The two-day event began with a Mass at the foot of the hill where the statue of the Madonna sculpted by award-winning Filipino sculptor Eduardo Castrillo, sits. The statue by Castrillo was brought to Poland through a donation of Stefan Masternak of Australia and Manuel Go of the Philippines. Then Cebu Archbishop Ricardo Cardinal Vidal, together with the bishops of the Diocese of Koszalin-Kołobrzeg and the Diocese of Szczecin-Kamien, consecrated the Madonna on October 29, 1995. "The engagement with the Filipino community elicited positive responses for future cooperation between the Embassy and the Filipinos in Poland," the DFA said. Deputy Mayor of Karlino Piotr Wós, Burmistrz of Góscino Marian Sieradzki, Sołtys of Domacyno Stanislawa Łepecka and Promotion Officer Emilia Michałowska joined the Mass and attended the short program and luncheon, the DFA said. - VVP, GMA News
