Pinay writes book on 'roller-coaster' life in New Zealand

A New Zealand-based Filipina has written a book on her roller-coaster life there for the last three years, hoping that her fellow Filipinos will be inspired to never give up. Baby Clemen del Corro said the book — titled “Baby, Don’t Give Up" — chronicles what she called her “journey from pain to gain." “The most important message I would like to share is: ‘Never give up! That there is light at the end of the tunnel. There is always hope,’" she told GMA News Online in an e-mail Wednesday. Del Corro said the book chronicles her survival from all kinds of abuse, including physical, emotional, psychological, spiritual, and sexual cruelties. She also narrated her life as an abandoned and abused child and a battered wife, and the struggles faced by an overseas Filipino worker or a domestic helper. The book also dealt with overcoming depression and how to regain self-worth and the impact of people that walked through her journey of healing. “You have to read the book to be able to understand the whole scenario that happened in my life," she said. “There’s too much in there but the most inspiring part is how I’ve survived it all and now fully motivated to help others suffering from the same experiences, and to have the same freedom and restoration," she added. New life Del Corro, 40, presently has permanent residency in New Zealand, along with her four children aged 15 to 20. “Together with my new partner who is a New Zealander, I am slowly settling in here with my children — two of them are studying and the other two are working at the moment," she said. “I have found my break in terms of career and will soon be running my own accommodation business in September and an online business," Del Corro also said, noting that she intends to continue further studies in one of the universities in New Zealand. During her three years there, she said she had interacted with seasonal workers from many countries such as Brazil, Argentina, Germany, China, Malaysia, Belgium, India, Uruguay, and Korea. — JE, GMA News
