Pinoy ultra-marathoner Cesar Guarin leaves for Europe leg of Global Run

Cesar Guarin, the first Filipino global runner and the “Father of Ultramarathon” in the Philippines, has left the country this week to continue the European leg of his run around the world.

Guarin's Global Run began in 1983 and will end in 2016.

The Global Run is considered as the world's toughest run ever and he has already completed five legs:
  • Trans Pilipinas in 1983;
  • Trans USA in 1985;
  • Trans Europe in 1992;
  • US-Canada in 2009; and
  • Trans Australian leg in 2011.
He has covered 13,500 kilometers in these five legs. In his most recent —  the Trans Australian leg — he ran 2,000 kilometers in 41 days.

Guarin is an alumnus of University of the Philippines and is the president and general manager of CEJOGUA Sports Corporation (CSC) which is headed by iSports BOTAK, a popular local line of sports wear.

He aims to run around the globe and if he accomplishes this feat, he will make history by being the first Filipino-Asian and the fourth runner in the world to pull it off.

Through running, Guarin raises funds for their organization which helps less fortunate children. They are currently trying to reach the $200,000-mark (P8,676,266).

In an interview over GMA's "24-Oras" newscast on Tuesday, Guarin said: “Excited nga ako sa Europe run. It’s going to be cool weather. Maganda naman yung preparation namin to meet more Filipino communities na makakasama namin para masabi namin kung ano yung misyon nung Global Run: Alay sa Pilipino.”
