DFA: Bangladesh hospital wants to hire Pinoy nurses

The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said a leading hospital in Bangladesh is planning to hire Filipino nurses for its facility in Dhaka.

In a news release earlier this week, the DFA said United Hospital chief coordinator Dr. Salahuddin Ahmed visited the Philippines recently to start interviewing applicants in Manila.

The DFA said the hospital plans to assign successful applicants to critical areas, including emergencies and intensive care cases or the so-called Basic Life Support (BLS) work.

Hospital managing director Faridur Rahman Khan described United Hospital as a multi-disciplinary hospital providing services to both local and foreign patients, especially those from the diplomatic area in Dhaka, since its inception in August 2006.

Ahmed and hospital director for operation and administration retired Brig. Gen. Shahidul Islam informed Philippine Ambassador to Bangladesh Bahnarim Guinomla about this plan last month.

"Guinomla described the move of the hospital as a ground-breaking development as most Filipino nurses work in more developed markets and that Bangladesh itself sends workers overseas," the DFA said.

Guinomla thanked Islam and Ahmed for their confidence in the skills and reliability of Filipino medical workers. - VVP, GMA News
