Saudi cops hunting down father, son for rape of Pinay

The police in Saudi Arabia are now tracking down a man and his son for the alleged rape and torture of a Filipina in Turaif in the kingdom's northern area.

The news site Arab News reported on Wednesday that the victim has since been rescued and is now staying at the Philippine Embassy.

Ambassador Ezzedin Tago refused to reveal more information about the case.

Earlier, the Philippine Embassy said it learned of the case only on July 8 and sought police help in rescuing the helper.

Arab News quoted a Filipino community leader as saying the helper was glad that she was rescued but was saddened that her case had gone public.
The embassy reminded Filipinos in the Kingdom and their families in the Philippines to "refrain from broadcasting through social media platforms or other means sensitive information regarding ongoing cases as it may compromise efforts by concerned authorities."

Instead, it encouraged Filipinos to contact the Embassy directly at atn@philembassy-riyadh.org for reports on similar cases.

Other cases

Meanwhile, Arab News also cited a similar and recent case, where a Filipino woman was also raped by her employer’s two sons.

While she was able to escape, she was captured again by a prostitution den in the Eastern Province.

The Arab News report noted several cases of sexual assaults were reported in 2011 and during the first half of 2012.

It also cited a study by the Philippine Committee on Overseas Workers Welfare showing that 70 percent of Filipino domestic workers suffer physical and psychological violence.

On the other hand, the Philippines and Indonesian governments have been trying since Nov. 3 last year to reach agreements with Arab states including the Kingdom to guarantee a minimum wage and more protection from abuse for their migrant workers. - VVP, GMA News
