Kapuso Foundation urges Pinoys to practice 'serbisyong totoo'

GMA Network's Kapuso Foundation has been at the frontlines of the country's major calamities, receiving donations in cash and kind, and sending them to those who need them most. In an interview with GMA News Online on Friday, Jeffrey Balde, Executive Director of the Kapuso Foundation, said he hopes that Filipinos all over the world would practice the battlecry of the foundation -- “serbisyong totoo.”   “We hope that we would infect them [all Filipinos] with this kind of service, that it would come out to them naturally when the need arises,” he said. Asked how Filipinos abroad can help the foundation, Balde said they can send monetary donations.   “Ang maganda sa cash, kung ano yung wala kami ang bibili,” he said.   He also mentioned that cash donations are currently larger than the donations in kind at P11,681,920.85 and P986,992.34 respectively.   According to a news release posted on the Kapuso Foundation website, the foundation "continues to respond to the pressing needs of calamity victims through the distribution of relief goods and basic supplies in affected areas in Metro Manila and nearby provinces.”   Just last week, when massive flooding affected Metro Manila and several provinces in Luzon, the Kapuso Foundation has assisted as of August 10 some 89,636 individuals from hard-hit areas like Quezon City, Malabon, Marikina, and Pampanga, to name a few. The foundation has handed out canned goods, bottled water, and other basic necessities to flood victims.   Donations in cash, kind Balde said those who would like to donate canned goods, bottled water, sleeping mats, blankets, medicines, and other relief items may drop off their donations at the GMA Kapuso Foundation Office, 2nd floor, Kapuso Center, GMA Network Drive cor. Samar Street, Diliman, Quezon City.   The GMA Kapuso Foundation Office also receives monetary and material donations from Monday to Friday, 9:00 am until 6:00 pm.   According to its website -- http://www.gmanetwork.com/kapusofoundation --  for monetary donation, the foundation accepts cash or check which can be personally delivered to the GMAKF Office or deposited in its bank accounts. An official receipt is automatically issued for donors who bring their cash donation to the foundation's office. For cash deposits, the donor is requested to fax or email a bank transaction slip indicating intended recipient and contact details for sending of official receipt. The foundation also accepts donation through Cebuana Lhuillier, all branches nationwide. Ready to help, rain or shine   Balde said the Kapuso Foundation accepts donations for different projects, not only during calamities but all year round.   Balde said these are the four main areas where the foundation is involved in:

  • Disaster relief
  • Education
  • Values formation
  • Health
Balde said out of the foundation's four main areas of concern, they get the most donations for the disaster relief program, especially during calamities that affect large groups of people.   Balde said the foundation helped some 715,585 people in 2011. Health projects For the health projects of the foundation, Balde said they screen "Subject of Appeal" patients who need urgent medical attention.   These patients are selected mainly because of the urgency of their medical situations. They are featured in the "Serbisyong Totoo" segment of GMA's “24 Oras” newscast.   These patients are then brought to a medical specialist for consultation and treatment. - VVP, GMA News
