Jessica Sanchez: Manila was amazing

After her successful Valentine's Day concert in the Philippines, Filipino-Mexican-American singer Jessica Sanchez tweeted, "Manila was amazing!" In a post on her Twitter account on Saturday, Sanchez, 17, said "Wanna thank my whole team that joined me on this trip!! Love y'all so much!!" Sanchez, the first runner-up in the 2012 season of the singing reality competition American Idol, held a Valentine's concert with fellow AI contestant Colton Dixon at the Smart Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City. Her fans raved about her performance. Ericson Tobias ‏@EricsonTobias @JessicaESanchez CAN'T WAIT TO SEE YOU AGAIN SOON HERE IN MANILA! YOUR CONCERT WAS SO AMAZING AND GREAT. I LOVE YOU!!! In her review of Sanchez's concert, GMA News Online contributor Alina Co said, "wow, has she grown up in a span of a year! There was no trace of the shy, soft-spoken girl in the on-cam “American Idol” interviews. Here was a sophisticated, confident girl who knows what she wants and is well on her way to the top." Co noted, "We’ve mostly heard Sanchez doing covers, the fans were left guessing as to what kind of artist she will evolve into, what kind of album will she and her producers put out? Which is probably well and good. We might have felt “bitin,” but at least we know for sure Jessica Sanchez will be back, with original songs to boot." A single with Ne-Yo For Sanchez fans, the wait for an original song will not take long as she is to release a single this month, in collaboration with Grammy winner Ne-Yo this month. Sanchez said the single entitled “Tonight” will be debuting in the US in an interview with Mornings@ANC. “I just wanted to show people that I'm still young and fresh...[it] is more like a fun, clubby dance song,” said Sanchez who is usually associated with mature-natured pop and ballad songs. She said her debut album will finally be released in May in the US and she hopes that it will be released in the Philippines “around the same time.” “We’ve been working hard on that album. I’ve been working on it since the tour and we just finished finalizing it and making it perfect for all the supporters,” she said. Pinoy roots Sanchez, who resides in Chula Vista, California, earlier told GMA Network that she was proud of her Filipino roots. “I’m proud of my culture and proud to say that I’m Pinoy and everything so I’m very excited to be here and this is like at the top of my list of the things that I’ve done in my life,” Sanchez said in an interview with Katrina Son on GMA Network's “News to Go” program in September last year. Sanchez's mother hails from Bataan. Sanchez loves Filipino food and once said "I could eat lumpia and pancit everyday." - Andrei Medina, Veronica Pulumbarit, GMA News
