New site offers POEA-approved jobs for OFWs for free

A group of former consultants has formed a startup company that aims to help overseas Filipino workers find jobs approved by the Philippine Overseas Administration Office (POEA) for free.

With the launching of OFWguru.com on Monday, the group promised a transparent, efficient, and free online platform for both OFWs and POEA-accredited recruitment agencies.

"OFWguru is designed to simplify and improve the overseas employment process for both job seekers and recruitment agencies," Ritche Weekun, co-founder of OFWguru, said in a statement.

To make the job-search experience easier for users, the site uses a clean and simple design but with sophisticated programs under the hood.

Weeken said OFWguru only accepts POEA-licensed employment agencies to post their job listings to ensure security for jobseekers.

The site also frequently updates any agency status changes with POEA to ensure job postings are indeed POEA approved, also doubles as an independent information source for OFW concerns.

OFWguru also boasts of two sections — guide section which features articles about living abroad with tips on the application process, overseas life, and even financial management, and the blog section, which highlights the personal stories of OFWs.

Georg Steiger, another co-founder, admitted that illegal recruiters preying on unexperienced first timers motivated them to come up with a site that will make the recruitment process "more efficient for everyone and provide OFWs with better knowledge to navigate around the pitfalls."

The two co-founders, Weekun and Steiger, met when they worked in international management consulting firm McKinsey & Company. —KBK, GMA News
