Fil-Am tennis coach nabbed over sexual assault in California

A Filipino-American teacher was arrested in California for allegedly assaulting a teenager at his tennis school.

Normandie Santos Burgos, 53, was arrested by Richmond Police Department in a local tennis court on July 10 after the police were tipped that he sexually assaulted a 16-year-old student.

RPD's Domestic and Sexual Violence Unit (DSVU) said Burgos, who founded the Burgos Tennis Foundation in Sausalito, California, had been assaulting the boy since he was 14.

Felix Tan, RPD spokesperson, told NBC Bay Area that the parents employed the suspect for "intimate one-on-one lessons" and that the teenager opened up to his mother about the abuse he suffered at the hands of the coach which lasted for two years.

According to the Marin Independent Journal, Burgos was kicked off his teaching position at Tamalpais High School after he was arrested following a complaint from a former student who told his therapist that Burgos had molested them.

Burgos was first arrested in August 2006 and charged with child molestation and sexual battery but was released when the case resulted in a hung jury or a deadlocked jury.

He was freed again in 2010 when he was tried on charges of lewd and lascivious conduct and sexual battery with two students.

The police put Burgos' total number of known victims at six.

The suspect remains at Contra Costa County with a bail amount of $1.5 million. —Rie Takumi/KBK/KVD, GMA News
