Lipa readies for pilgrim Fatima image's visit

MANILA, Philippines — Residents of Lipa in Batangas province are preparing for the historic first visit of the international pilgrim image of Our Lady of Fatima there this Sunday. The Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines website (www.cbcpnews.com) said Tuesday the image will be welcomed with a motorcade upon its arrival on Feb. 1. "(Lipa) Archbishop Ramon Arguelles will lead the Welcome Mass together with the priests and the faithful of Vicariate 1 and the Archdiocesan Youth Commission," the CBCP said. Custodian and national coordinator Fr. Melvin Castro will accompany the image during the motorcade to the parish church of Sto. Tomas, Batangas. A 3 p.m. Mass, a vigil and public veneration inside the parish church will follow. At 7 p.m., the pilgrim image will be brought to the Cathedral of San Sebastian. Following the 8 p.m. mass, the faithful will hold a "prayerful vigil" until midnight. The Parish of San Sebastian takes over the vigil until 7 a.m. the following day. The Virgin will be special visitor to the opening of the Archdiocesan Month of Vocations, to be highlighted by a concelebrated Mass presided by Arguelles. After this, the image goes to Vicariate III and stay at the parish of the Most Holy Trinity. From Batangas City, the image will be brought to the historic Taal Church, where a concelebrated Mass by the priests of Vicariates I and II will be held. On Wednesday, February 4, after an overnight vigil, Arguelles will lead priests and faithful in a farewell Mass at 9 a.m. at the Basilica of St. Martin of Tours in Taal. From there, the international pilgrim image will proceed to the Archdiocese of San Fernando (de Pampanga) for her second leg in her visit to the country. - GMANews.TV
