Frat neophyte dies in Cavite hazing

At least eight members of a fraternity are now in the custody of law enforcers in connection with the suspected hazing-related death of a 21-year-old neophyte in Cavite province last Monday. A report in dzXL radio identified the eight as Antonio Rosanes, Ricky Arga, Rommel Pega, Timothy Cruzada, Paul John Caldit, Jecel Alvares, Aaron Amparo, and Aloja Vidallon. Ruel Lasala of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) said two of the fraternity members surrendered to them after they were tagged responsible for the death of one Elvis Sinaluan during the group's initiation rites.

A certain Creseno Paloma Ligaya was also hurt in the hazing conducted by members of the Scout Royal Brotherhood (SRB) in Alfonso town Monday night. Reports reaching the NBI office in Manila said 16 members of the fraternity conducted initiation rites on Sinaluan and Ligaya. “They were hit by paddle every 30 seconds for two hours," said Special Investigator Anna Labao of the NBI Office of the Intelligence Services. After the hazing, Sinaluan started complaining about difficulty in breathing. He was rushed to the hospital but he died along the way. Sinaluan sustained bruises and contusions from the beatings he suffered during the initiation rites. The suspects are facing violation of RA 8049 otherwise known as Anti- Hazing Law. Police authorities are still looking for the remaining suspects. - GMANews.TV
