519 passengers rescued from maritime mishap off Cebu

Over 500 passengers were rescued from a ship that ran aground off Cebu province after figuring in a minor collision with a cargo vessel Tuesday night. Philippine Coast Guard spokesman Armand Balilio said in an interview with GMANews.TV that the incident was only a minor collision. “Minor na banggaan lang ang nangyari sa pagitan ng dalawang barko at wala namang gaanong nasaktan (What happened was a minor incident and no one was badly hurt)," Balilio said. Radio dzXL reported that the Coast Guard rescued 519 passengers from the MV Wonderful Star, which ran aground near the First Mactan Bridge after brushing against the cargo ship. While none of the passengers sustained serious injuries, some of them complained of dizziness, while others hit their heads on parts of the ship when the incident happened, the report said. Initial investigation showed the ship was heading for Ormoc City in Leyte when it collided with cargo vessel "Subic Bay 1." - LBG, GMANews.TV
